Responsibility

Taking responsibility

Estimations for a book’s carbon footprint range from three to a whopping seven kilograms of carbon. Books are made from trees - one of our greatest carbon sinks and there is no getting away from it. As consumers we can however, choose where we buy our books. Choosing to buy books from StoryBox means that you are choosing to buy books from a company that is committed to reducing its environmental impact. Sustainability has always been part of our business strategy.

Here’s how:

Championing Eco Brands
We focus on finding innovative, environmentally conscious brands. Here are just a couple of those we love:

  • Bumbu: we love their wonderful toys, all made from FSC-certified wood. But it's not just about the wood. They also avoid using harmful latex, BPA, and other toxic chemicals in their production process.

  • Kitpas: this award-winning company specialise in the manufacture of innovative, eco-friendly art materials. Their crayons are made with rice bran wax, a product typically discarded in the processing of rice. What a way to give it a second life!

  • Sarah's Silks: a company that uses manufacturing processes that are sensitive to the environment and works to ensure responsible partnerships throughout their entire supply chain.

Commitment to Circular Packaging
Over 30 billion tons of the world's non-renewable waste comes from packaging. One way to combat this issue is to promote responsible consumption, reduce waste, reuse materials, and regenerate resources. Circular packaging promotes the use of reusable, recyclable, and compostable commercial packaging materials.
  • Boxes: made from FSC-certified kraft materials and printed with soy-based ink colours, our StoryBoxes are fully compostable in your back garden!

  • Tissue paper: compostable, and also recyclable where accepted. While paper is naturally recyclable as long as it is free from contaminants, tissue paper is usually thin and considered as a lower-grade material that's harder to recycle, therefore some recycling facilities do not accept it. Check with your local recycling facilities if you intend to recycle. Happily though, our StoryBox tissue paper is fully home compostable after use!

  • Stickers: our stickers are made using acid free paper and are instead made from cellulose fibre. This means the active acid pulp is eliminated during processing. They are lignin and sulphur free too which means the soy-based ink won't transfer from stickers and the paper won't leave chemicals when decomposing.
